Artist Research - Kate Gibb

Kate Gibb has mainly worked in music, as she has done artwork for The Chemical Brothers, Bob Marley, Suede and more. She has also done work for magazines and books. Techniques include collage, textiles, printmaking and illustration. My opinion of her work is that it’s impressive and interesting to look at. I think the best pieces are the prints which have lots of different shapes and colours with various art mediums. Kate has created a lot of covers for The Chemical Brothers, for example the cover for ‘It Began In Afrika’, the artwork is obviously influenced from her own abstract work as both have similarities like shapes and colours. When just looking at The Chemical Brothers album artwork I’ve noticed elements such as a blank canvas in the background, the hue/saturation changed and sometimes a combination. Kate is a part of the group Big Active, who are an “award-winning creative consultancy specialising in art design, graphic design and the representation of leading image-makers”, their aim is to “produce creative design and commercial art based upon ideas with an accessible common touch” which is their ethos, and which obviously goes for Kate as well as she has designed lots of album covers, much like the rest of Big Active.
