Chelsea Project - Studio Shoot

Studio backdrop & light

The plan for this was to get pics of the models so I could use them and edit them for my Chelsea piece for Saatchi. I wasn't sure if I was going to have the pics in a collage piece or a Tim Marrs style piece, but either would look great. Equipment includes a Nikon with sofbox & hotshoe. The location is in the photography studio.

The aim of this was to get pics for our Chelsea piece. This went badly as you can tell because none of the pictures came out right, bright one minute, pitch black the next even though I made sure the aperture and shutter speed and everything else I did was perfect. This was done with a softbox and hotshoe even though I didn't want to use them. They could be improved by not being overexposed.

Chelsea Project - Location Shoot In Chelsea

converging verticals

diagonal shot, equal split of building & sky

My favourite one because it combines light & dark

The plan for this was to get loads of brilliant pics for my Chelsea project and eventually for Saatchi, where I will edit these into something great. My equipment is a Nikon 3000. Location is in Chelsea

I aimed to mainly get pictures of architecture so I could gets lots of ideas for pieces, as well as the clock from 'World's End'. For the building pictures I pointed a camera upwards creating converging verticals. The images were made because I wanted good stuff to edit for my pieces which would eventually be displayed at Saatchi Gallery. It worked by being taken at the right angles, having shadows & light, good amount of sky, which looked really good. I would improve by getting some pictures of the houses in Belgrave and coming back when King's Road isn't boring anymore, as I would have got some great pics if King's Road still looked like what it did in the 70's.

Equipment List:
Nikon 3000 with 18-55 zoom lens.

Photography Experimentation - Levitation

The plan for this is to get pics of levitation. Ideas that me & Harry have are one of a car crash, sitting in mid air and one of my favourites which is where someone will pose like a superhero where it will look like they are flying in the air. Equipment includes Nikon and ladder. Location is in college.

We did this by taking a picture of Evan standing on a ladder next to a car, he was leaning towards us with his arms out with an expression on his face as if he's just been in a car crash. After this, we took the exact same pic without Evan or the ladder. Then on Photoshop we put the pic of Evan on the ladder on top of the pic without, then we erased the ladder so it looked like Evan was flying out the car. After this we added effects like broken glass. The other pic of Harry chilling in mid air was done the same way but this time without any effects, obviously.

Hugo Schmolz

I found Hugo Schmolz's work on theredlist. I like it because it has the lighting, shadows, AND the subject. I like pictures which look like they have a lot going on (big rooms, lots of tables, chairs, props, people, lights etc) or ones which are simple... but effective. The staircase is probably my favourite piece of his so far because the concept of taking the pic at the top of the stairs to create the swirl image is great.

Lucien Herve

I also found Lucien on theredlist. I like this work because I like how some of his photos of architecture are taken from a different angle, usually for pictures with shapes. I also like how it kind of looks gritty and urban. Although it's not an architecture piece, the picture of the shadow on the stairs reminds me of Nosferatu everytime I see it.
