Photography - Viewpoints

Single viewpoint of a chair

Multiple viewpoints

David Crook inspired

My own style - cloning

The plan for this was to get photos of different viewpoints including a single viewpoint, multiple viewpoints, David Crook inspired and our own style.

For this we had to take loads of pictures and put them into a piece inspired by viewpoints. Our first one was a single viewpoint of a chair, where we'd stand still and just move the camera around. We had to specifically do a chair to compare with other's work at the end, I think this is my favourite one because it was the one that came out best in my opinion. After that we had to do one of multiple viewpoints where we'd take pics of things from different angles. The next one was actually a David Crook inspired where we'd only take about 3 pics then cut them into strips where each pic would look slightly different. Our last one was a style of our choice so I did cloning, where my subject was cloned a number of times in the pic. I think I did well in this because I got good feedback for each pic, to improve I would have to practise more with the multiple viewpoints one because I found it slightly tricky, for the David Crook one I would choose a better subject and for the cloning one I would have to use the 'levitation technique' again.

Photography - Beate Gutschow Inspired

Beate Gutschow is a German contemporary artist who is known for her landscape photography. Her work is known to be spaceous and include buildings, as well as be done in black & white. Her work looks really depressing because theres no people or natural objects around just dull buildings and space, it reminds me of a dystopia, the sort of place A Clockwork Orange would be set.

The plan for this is to take photos inspired by Beate Gutschow, where we have to take photos in depressing places. Equipment includes a Nikon DX, where I'll take the pics in black & white.

For this we had to take pics of depressing places in the style of Beate Gutschow in black & white, we were only limited to taking pics around college, so finding depressing places would be a bit of a challenge (whereas a block of flats would be ideal for this).

Web Design Project - Reflections

The plan for this was to get photos with reflections in them. We got a list of things to take pictures of with reflection including water, metal, glass etc.

We took photos with reflections in them. I think they turned out well because I got good feedback. I was impressed with the puddle one because the tree reflection was done well in it but the double yellow lines  ruined it slightly. My favourite one was the metal one, because the photo was taken thrtough a fence and it looked bendy in the reflection of the wing mirror, which gave it a surreal look.

Photography - Still Life

white reflection

black reflection

black background

what we did
set colour balance - incandescent
f16 - small aperture for big DOF

The plan for this was to get still life pics of a glass with different reflections. This was determined by having white and black backgrounds, obviously the white background would have reflect white in the glass and vice versa. Equipment will include a Nikon DX, tripod, glasses, black and white card and studio lights.

We had to have different reflections from a glass. The picture of the glass with white reflection is my favourite and came out best in my opinion.

Web Design Project - Reflectors

black

normal

silver

white

The plan for this is to get pics of our subject with different light on them based on the reflector. My equipment will include a Nikon DX with no tripod needed, the umbrellas, studio lights and a hotshoe. The location will be in the photography studio.

This was just like the umbrella task but with reflectors, the results were closely the same: hard light with black but this time soft light with silver. For some reason, the picture of the gold reflector did not want to come out properly for me or my group, the picture just came out dark.

Web Design Project - Background, Foreground, Midground

One of my best pics because of the angle and positions are good (building right in the middle, small room on left, cars on right)

I like this because it reminds me of a professional photo

This one came out well because I had the start of the wooden railings in the foreground and the rest of it in the mid-ground (as well as the trees in the background)

All 3

Simple background shot of white painted brick wall

Probably the least interesting photo of a background pic of mud

Another background pic of floor, looks kind of interesting in a way because of the weird pattern

Background

Good pic because the bricks take up all the room and it shows texture

Foreground pic of door with Fire Exir sticker on

Another great professional looking picture I was impressed with

Foreground

I did this pic because of the car being in the mid-ground

Mid-ground pic of railings and things that have been dumped

Not a very interesting pic but I tried

Mid-ground

I saw the bikes as a good photo op

FG & BG pic of a No Cycling sign in front with trees in the back

FG & BG pic of wooden railing in front with the rest in the back

Foreground & Background

The plan for this was to get 3 pics of each. Since I have to take these pics in college, I try and get the most interesting angles, objects etc possible. My equipment will only include a Nikon since this is outdoors. Location is in college.

For this we had to take pics of things in the background, foreground, mid-ground, foreground & background and all 3 of them. My favourites are the foreground & background ones because they are more visually interesting

Web Design Project - 3D

Close up of pic of fountain. I got recommended to take this pic and I'm glad I did because I think this may be the best one i did.

Another good one, I thought this looked colourful

This looks okay but I think you can only tell it's 3D because of the window at the top

The plan for this is to get pics in 3D. I'll do this by taking a pic then moving my camera carefully 7-8cm to the right then following a tutorial about changing it to 3D in Photoshop. My equipment will include a Nikon and ruler. Location is in college.

I did this by taking a photo and then moving the camera 7-8cm to the right. Then in Photoshop I opened both photos one on top of the other, then I went on channels (in Layers) and unchecked Red so it would appear blue-green (cyan) then I lined them up to make a 3D image and checked it looked cool with 3D glasses.

Web Design Project - Umbrellas

white umbrella

gold umbrella

silver umbrella

studio set up

The plan is to have someone stand near an umbrella to have light reflect on them for the photo. Equipment includes Nikon and umbrellas. Location is in the photography studio.

For this we had to take a picture of someone standing near an umbrella to get the light to reflect on them for the photo. The white umbrella had soft light and the silver umbrella had hard light, the gold one simply came out with a glow effect.

Web Design Project - Height, Angle & Crop

camera height - looking up or down

I got good feedback for these because of the perspective, big at the top and small at the bottom or small at the bottom and big at the top.

camera angle - by rotating the camera

I got good feedback for these also because of the strange composition, with the funny angle in the way the fifth pic is taken and with the almost perfect 45 degree angle in the sixth pic.

cropping - no post-production

The ninth pic is my favourite because it's like a DOF pic.

The plan is to get pics of different heights, angles & crops. Equipment includes just a Nikon as this is outdoors. Location is in town and around Chi.

For this I had to get pics of height, angle & crop. It came out well because I got good feedback for my height & angle pics because of the good composition and perspectives. I think I did well with the crop pics too. My favourite is the last pic because it's amazing.
